Our Mission

Our mission is to provide affordable, accurate, and risk-free web scraping services to businesses of any size. Good data should be something you can rely on, not something you have to double-check.

We also share what we learn. If there's a better way to collect something, or a good reason not to collect it at all, we'll say so.

Why work with
TheDataHQ?

Scraping is all we do. We've been at it for over 12 years, so we've already run into most of the problems your project will hit - and we know how to get around them.

You get a fair price, data you can trust, and a team that answers when you write. That's most of what people want from a scraping partner, and it's what we're set up to do.

How an engagement runs

The same six steps whether it is a single site or a pipeline running a million pages a day. Most projects start within a few days of the requirements being agreed, and a single straightforward site is usually running within a week. Larger multi-site pipelines take longer, and you get a schedule with the quote rather than a vague estimate.

  1. STEP 01

    Interaction

Hand-shake connection has been established between potential customer and Business Team.

  2. STEP 02

    Consultation

Potential customer exchange information and Business Team consult them with expert advice.

  3. STEP 03

    Evaluation

Compliance & Technical specialist examines the identified business need of potential buyer.

  4. STEP 04

    Execution

Potential Buyer confirms the compliance details to allow Engineering team to start Execution.

  5. STEP 05

    Disposition

Delivery team dispose off the Exemplary Service to ensure the customer delight.

  6. STEP 06

    Exceed Expectation

Build a strong long term relationship with a client by exceeding their expectations at every stage.

What we will not take on

We only collect data that is published publicly, and we do not gather personal or identity information. We will not take work that needs us to get around a site’s access controls or break its terms of use. If a request falls the wrong side of that line we say so before starting, not after.

Collection is built to be well-behaved: sensible request rates, proper identification, and respect for published crawl rules. If a site does not want to be collected from, we treat that as a signal rather than a problem to engineer around. Where a site is simply slow or rate-limited, we schedule around it.

How the commercials work

Three ways, depending on how often the data changes and how much of the work is ongoing: a fixed price for a defined project, a weekly or monthly retainer for continuous collection, or a dedicated scraping developer working as part of your team.

Sites change their layout regularly, and fixing selectors afterwards is part of what you are paying for. It is included in retainer and dedicated developer arrangements; on fixed-price projects we agree a support window upfront.

The datasets we build are yours. We do not resell them and we do not reuse them for other clients. We sign NDAs routinely, and are happy to work under your paperwork rather than ours.

Questions people ask before they start

Is web scraping legal?

Collecting information that is published publicly is generally lawful, but it depends on the site, the data and where you operate. We only collect publicly available data, we don't gather personal or identity information, and we won't take on work that needs us to get around a site's access controls or break its terms of use. If a request falls the wrong side of that line, we'll tell you before we start rather than after.

Do you work with small businesses, or only enterprises?

Both. We have built one-off datasets for solo founders and continuous pipelines running millions of pages a day for larger teams. The approach is the same, the scale is not.

Who owns the data you collect for me?

You do. The datasets we produce for you are yours. We do not resell them and we do not reuse them for other clients.

Do you sign NDAs?

Yes, routinely, and we are happy to work under your paperwork rather than ours. We can also sign a data processing agreement where your engagement involves us handling data on your behalf.

What happens when a target site changes its layout?

It happens regularly, and it is part of what you are paying for. We monitor our scrapers, so in most cases we spot a break before you do. Fixing selectors after a layout change is included in retainer and dedicated developer arrangements. On fixed-price projects we agree a support window upfront.

What if a site blocks the scraper?

We build collection to be well-behaved: sensible request rates, proper identification and respect for published crawl rules. If a site does not want to be collected from, that is a signal we take seriously rather than a problem to engineer around. Where a site is simply slow or rate-limited, we schedule around it.
